The establishment of this institution in 2005 was a long-cherished dream come true for the people of Bandipora. For decades, students from this remote district either had to travel to Srinagar or Sopore for higher education or abandon their aspirations due to financial constraints. The opening of this college transformed lives, bringing the gift of education within reach of thousands. Since its inception, the institution has produced over 6,000 graduates, many of whom have gone on to excel in diverse fields—renowned scholars, gold medallists, accomplished professionals, and even India’s cultural ambassador to the United States and Padma Shri awardees. Their success is a testament to the transformative power of education and the college’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

Over the years, the college has continuously evolved to meet the changing educational landscape. Recognized under 12(B) & 2(F) of the UGC Act 1956, and affiliated with the University of Kashmir, the college offers a multidisciplinary curriculum spanning languages, social sciences, commerce, sciences, and computer applications. Keeping pace with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the institution introduced Honors programs in all available disciplines from the 2022-23 academic session, ensuring that students receive specialized education that aligns with national academic reforms and global learning standards.

From its humble beginnings, when it operated from N.M. Higher Secondary School, the college has come a long way in terms of infrastructure and facilities. Today, it boasts two primary academic buildings: the Science Block, housing well-equipped laboratories, a fully updated library, a browsing centre, an EduSat room, and an IT section; and the Arts and Humanities Block, a vibrant space where students engage in learning with an unobstructed view of the ever-changing Wular Lake. The sight of students gathering around the corridors, deep in discussions or lost in their books, mirrors the very essence of academia—curiosity, inquiry, and intellectual pursuit.

Recent infrastructural advancements have significantly enhanced the campus. The construction of a decorated stone stairway from Shangloo Mohallah Mangnipoora to the campus has greatly improved accessibility for students. The expansion of the sports ground, concrete fencing, arrangement of new lawns, and the complete renovation of the Science Block roofing have contributed to a better learning environment. The installation of a fully functional control access management system has strengthened administrative efficiency, while increased interconnectivity within the campus has made navigation smoother. The government’s recent allocation of funds for the construction of a girls' hostel and several prefabricated huts promises to further improve residential and facilities.

Despite the absence of a dedicated auditorium, the college thrives as a hub of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Debates, literary events, cultural programs, and academic seminars continue to nurture students’ creative and intellectual capabilities. The lack of a fully developed sports complex remains a challenge, but it has not deterred the college’s athletes. Over the years, students have excelled in sports, producing champions and even a Ranji Trophy cricketer, proving that dedication and passion can triumph over infrastructural constraints. A defining milestone in the college’s journey came in August 2022, when it was accredited by the prestigious NAAC Peer Team from Bangalore.
